Sagers Participates in California Student Athlete Compensation Legislation

Chris Sagers, the James A. Thomas Professor of Law, was asked to participate in the recent legislative process by which California has authorized college athletes to earn some compensation for their work. At the request of California Senator Nancy Skinner, a sponsor of the legislation, Sagers wrote to Governor Gavin Newsom to encourage him to sign the bill. Sagers wrote to counter arguments made by the NCAA that the bill would violate federal constitutional law.
Governor Newsom signed the legislation on September 30. You can read Sagers’ letter here.
